Celebrating Tattooing Dads: A Conversation with Bradley Kinney

As Father's Day approaches, it's important to recognize and celebrate the artist fathers in the industry who not only excel in their craft but also manage to balance work and family life.

Bradley Kinney @b.d.kinney was gracious enough to indulge me in conversation about fatherhood. Check out his incredible, traditional work and read his interview below.

Sandy Castaneda (SC): How do you balance the demands of being a parent with the demands of being a working artist?

Bradley Kinney (BK): Even before becoming a father, a good work-life balance is something I’ve always strived to prioritize. So it’s just something I try to continue with and it’s been very beneficial. But it certainly can be challenging, and I don’t always get it right.

SC: Do you have any tattoos inspired by your children or family life?

BK: I have my wife’s name tattooed on me, but that’s it so far.

SC: How would you describe your tattooing style?

BK: American traditional

SC: How long have you been tattooing, and how did you get started?

BK: I’ve been tattooing for about 11 years, and I got started tattooing my friends in a garage. I realized I really enjoyed it a sought out an apprenticeship.

SC: What does your ideal day off with your son look like?

BK: My son is still pretty young so it mostly consists of my wife and I chasing him around and try to keep him from bumping his head on things.

Here are some photos of Bradley's beautiful family.
